Absinthe has a unique reputation.
When we talk about it, we often think of something strong, almost dangerous… even forbidden.
But this image mainly comes from its history.
At the beginning of the 20th century, absinthe was banned in many countries.
It was accused of driving people insane, of being responsible for extreme behaviors. In reality, these fears often stemmed from alcohol abuse in general, and from poor-quality products at the time. Since then, things have evolved significantly.
Today, absinthe is legally regulated, controlled, and produced under strict standards. The levels of thujone (the molecule often pointed out) are regulated and safe at the permitted doses.
So why does it still scare people?
Because its image has remained.
Between the stories, the myths, and its very distinct taste, it retains a mysterious side.
But in reality, absinthe is mainly a spirit that is very aromatic, complex, with notes of anise, herbs, and freshness.
It is not a “dangerous” drink.
It is simply a drink with a strong personality.
And as often happens, what we don't really know… can impress at first glance.
